Featuring Dr. Scheherazade Rayat, MD, PhD: Food as Medicine Advocate
Dr. Rayat is a medical doctor with a PhD in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. She is on a mission to revolutionize how we think about food. The journey began when a close relative, a cancer survivor, asked Scheherazade the million-dollar question: “What should I eat?” Her initial response was a vague “eat healthy,” but she quickly realized that patients often don't receive concrete nutritional advice from their doctors. This epiphany sparked a passion that led her to explore the intricate connections between diet and disease. Now an entrepreneur, Scheherazade is the founder of New Treat Nutrition, dedicated to bringing nutrition back to our food. She noticed that the Western diet often misses out on vital nutrients, and she's determined to change that. Her motto, “food as medicine and supplements,” isn’t just a catchy phrase; it’s the guiding principle behind her work. She's even penned a handbook, “New Treat, Cancer Nutrition,” offering insights on dietary choices aimed at both preventing cancer and supporting those undergoing treatment, without interfering with medical protocols. When she’s not advancing the frontiers of nutrition, Scheherazade enjoys expressing her creativity through watercolor and acrylic painting. To her, art is the nutrition for the soul, a perfect complement to her belief in the healing power of food.
